My usual hotel in this area is the W Downtown right next door, but I tried this Marriott a couple times last fall to give it a shot. Haven't been back since so I can't say what the deal is with the exec lounge, but last fall it was definitely available for Plats and up with a decent hot breakfast selection and adequate evening hors d'oeuvres. Rooms tend to be a bit more spacious than the W but obviously a different ambiance based on the brand differences. In my experience the Marriott tends to price ~10-30% higher than the W most of the time; I don't remember ever seeing it significantly cheaper than the W.
For me, the main reasons to choose the Marriott over the W would be: 1) you put a lot of value in the lounge (assuming it still exists), 2) you like in-room dining - the restaurant at the W has been closed for years for "renovations" and I suspect it will never be back, 3) you generally prefer the vibe of a Marriott over a W, or 4) you're price insensitive and having a bigger room is important to you.
