Oldish thread, but as I again consider my options for another Australia-Europe return flight in Y, I find myself searching out options that involve neither 777/10 or 787/9. I will pay more or take indirect flights if necessary to avoid those aircraft configurations. Fortunately the A350 is now quite common, and the A380 is still flying, so I try to get on those aircraft.
Perhaps the differences in opinion on this topic relate to shoulder width. I have broad shoulders - always have. Flying in 787 has been agony for me when stuck in a middle or window seat, and very uncomfortable when on an aisle. Numbness and pins and needles in shoulders and arms for hours is not something I will put up with. But for those with narrower shoulders, possibly not a real problem.
