Arrived by train from Birmingham International station, very poor signage to hotel, had to use my GPS and offline maps. About 6 mins walk, apparently complimentary shuttle runs every 30 mins, but couldn't see any signage regarding this either.

Check-in pleasant but slow, staff had to do lots of furious typing for every guest not sure why. Received a 7-letter code for parking, not sure if this would have made it free or what as I wasn't driving.

Got family room at the end of the exec wing with nice view of the lake and Resorts World. I was on my own this stay, but the sofa bed was prepared for children with some marshmallows, crayons and colouring sheets. Water was two 1L glass bottles of the Hildon brand.

None of the sockets had switches which is a bit unsafe if there are actually young children in the room. All of the sockets were used by lamps (which were so big that they occupied half of the space of every table) and the standard Hilton alarm clock leaving nothing for me to use without unplugging things.

Air-con wouldn't turn on at all with control panel completely off. Wifi was very slow, couldn't watch youtube. Tried logging in with name and room number instead of the code but didn't help. Used mobile data instead.

7am Sunday loud suspicious-sounding voices from corridor for approx 1 hour. Later discovered it might have been air-con technicians but they must have woken everyone else up.

Breakfast good service and ambiance, but food left a bit to be desired. Hash browns falling apart, sausages and pastries tasted cheap (like Holiday Inn Express ones), glasses too tall to fit under juice dispensers.

In room from 9am-11am, three times heard a knock on the door and someone calling room service, firstly I hadn't ordered anything, but by the time I put clothes on and went to the door, there was nobody outside. I wondered if it was poor insulation but the adjacent doors are a bit of distance away.
