FWIW - based on my understanding, CBP routinely makes phone calls when conducting secondary inspections to ensure the aliens' story check out.
Also - OP's status at GOES confirmed what was told by the phone call that the GE was indeed revoked.
So yes, the call might be alarming but seem legitimate.

The detail was unknown. It would be possible that the investigation has been completed. CBP decided to revoke GE based on risks.
