I wondered that - the other segments on that leg are NRT-HKG-DOH. I can see the same availability for MCT-DOH-AMS though, so AFAICT it's eligible for married segments? [Obviously, it's practically impossible to get Book with Avios to show esoteric routings...]

I didn't think to ask her to try it as an entirely new booking though, so I don't know if she did.
