Customer support is always more willing when you are able to talk to them in a friendly fashion. I wouldn't want to do the longer one via MIA (and not sure the fare rules allow it), but that's up to you!
Hmm.. I might have to HUCA (hang up call again) since the first one I called said that I would need to contact Priceline to make any changes even though the schedule change was on AA and made by AA (with the 001) ticket number, something is off there so I might just give AA another call tomorrow. lol
