I think many reservation systems do not take spaces and special characters and putting middle name in the PNR is really a more recent thing for security. So, I think many of these old systems were not designed for a middle name field.

So it might even be a convention to put LAST/FIRSTMIDDLETITLE. My UA tickets has everything lumped together like this. The name matching algorithm should be able to handle it.
