I was recently in a situation with 2 separate tickets and wanted to check my bag. I both called and asked via social media and was told to take care of it at the ticket counter. The Notes section of the PNR is not effective. I am Mosaic but I got the impression that this was a common request. I ended up carrying on my bag but thought I'd share what I was told.
