I agree with you. I did the same in January after flying international to international on AA with a domestic segment between DFW & MIA. I called AA to have my AA FF# on the international segments removed and credits reversed. It was completed while I was on the phone. The long-time Agent wasn't aware international flights still credit to AS. One segment still credited to AA so I sent the boarding pass to AS for credit.
The entire itinerary, including the domestic segments credited to AS. It was a nice YVR-DFW-MIA-PTY return in J for ~$510 return. Domestic full Y and access to Flagship First in MIA.
