Liability Coverage in Europe - Enterprise/Alamo
So I booked a one-month car rental through Costco.com with Alamo in Europe. The pickup location was actually an Enterprise location at Paris Orly airport. I also have a Chase Sapphire Reserve card with complete primary CDW coverage.
However, when I picked up my car, they told me that my Alamo rental through Costco does not include the liability insurance that (from what I can gather) is typically included in the base price if you book a rental car in Europe. Supposedly, in order to get the liability insurance, they had to cancel my Costco reservation and book a new one on their site including Damage Waiver (DW). The problem with that is that it was 230 Euros more and I don't need DW because of my Sapphire Reserve card. In fact, agreeing to DW cancels my CDW through Chase so instead of having 100% primary coverage through my card I now have a 1,000 Euro deductible. :-( However, I supposedly have liability coverage now and he threw in a bunch of extras for free.
Nevertheless, can anyone confirm or deny if I got ripped off here? I really did need liability coverage (USAA doesn't extend liability coverage internationally) but was agreeing to DW the only way to get it from Enterprise in France? I have always assumed I was good to go with my Chase CDW coverage but now I'm concerned about future rentals in Europe. How in the world can you know in advance if your rental includes liability coverage or not?
