Flying SKB-MIA-TPA on a Sunday evening in May with a 2 hour layover in MIA. No GE or Pre-Check although will use Mobile Passport which we had a great experience with last year flying from Munich into MIA. Would it be worth it to carry on our bags instead of checking them due to potential time savings?
I will always carry-on when I can. You never know if your incoming flight will be delayed or if there will be some other issue (once the cargo door didn't open so we were stuck waiting for bags until maintenance got it fixed...four hours later!).
