Yes, it was, but still much shorter than the CNY ones (I think 12 vs 23 minutes, so so). The NYE fireworks are quite a recent thing in HK - there was a very disappointing absence of them at the millenium (except for a very small display at the HK Stadium); they have been progressing over the years since from silent ones fired off buildings to now a display from barges in the harbour with enough bangs to wake me up in the mid-levels.
