In your defence, it's really not immediately obvious that you need to enter the country to fly between TAO and XMN as you might assume you can stay on the plane during a technical stop. But that is not how things work in China. But the key thing is that you did manage to find out, just in time, and hopefully you can sort your Visa out today. Good luck!
