Sure. The fact that PIN is generally not required in the US and that mass transit usage is much lower than in other countries (outside of certain exceptions) may make it a much harder sell for people, though.
That said, it would be kinda cool to be able to tap one's credit card at the security checkpoint (and again at the gate while boarding) to buy oneself a last minute airline ticket without going to the airline's website/counter but that's probably not viable for a whole bunch of reasons.
