I never had issue with bringing people as my guests during check-in. The most recent one was Sydney where my SO (OWS) and I (OWE) brought two more guests to check in luggage. Neither of us had QR status on boarding passes, but I have done this countless times when I did in the past with 100% success rate.

Also I mostly had success with adding priority baggage tags for other people traveling with me (sometimes on same PNR sometimes not), but I did had ask nicely sometimes to get this.
