the airline is not at fault for denying you boarding....the passport just has to be valid at the time you book your tickets....that's all the airline cares about....having a visa or the 6 month validity or anything else is the responsibility of the passenger....
I agree if either of the countries had a rule about the passport that I missed then its totally on me. Just that I was sure that I did my homework and the 6 months validity is not a requirement. I think I'll go with advice here and suck it up.
