Well, I agree overall service in Japan is exceptional. We stayed at three "Western-style" hotels (New Miyako in Kyoto and Renaissance Tobu Ginza in Tokyo)--while the other two were very good--far beyond most U.S. properties--I found the Westin Osaka service beyond the others. Just my experience....since I'm not a platinum--the upgrades & amenities were not an issue.
