I assume you mean the tickets were purchased using your friend's UR points? If it's a friend (and not a family member listed in the benefit guide) then I don't think Trip Cancellation would apply. If your friend helped you book the trip using your own UR points, however, you should be eligible.

From the airlines' perspective tickets bought with UR points are pretty much the same as those bought with cash, however. So if for some reason you booked refundable tickets (highly unlikely) the airlines should refund them (though I'm not sure exactly how refunds would work with UR points). And if they were nonrefundable, you may still be able to cancel and use any remaining credit (after deducting change fees, which can be pretty heavy) toward a different trip on the airline.
