There's one issue with booking under your MU status and then switching to Skymiles at the airport. If your name doesn't match, exactly, they won't be able to add the SM number. So, if you really want to credit to SM, make sure the name matches exactly at time of booking. This has caught me out before (especially with Chinese booking systems).
