Some people are in the habit of carrying their 'phone/device in their hand almost continuously.
For those that do, this can save time.
For others, like me, it's unlikely to save any time other than hopefully not having to check in at a reception desk.
I agree with that point however that also required you to trust the hotel to assign you a proper room. 8 out of 10 times I have to ask for something different than what they originally assigned, especially if they didn't upgrade you to a suite despite those being sold for the same day.
