Recommend doing that if you ever find yourself here (or another busy conference hotel with a club) again.
I just approach the Concierge desk on the ground floor and tell them that I'm there to check in. They key in my name into the computer and swiftly escort me to the Club lounge for check in.
For upgrade, I do my homework by proactively emailing the property ahead of time to make such a request because we usually encounter a rookie at the FD which I don't want to depend on for upgrade. With at least 50 nights under my belt at this property, my upgrade ratio is 100%. I do the same with all my hotel stays across all brands.
