The EVA policy for USA originating flights is 100% refund within 24 hours, I guess to be competitive with airlines like United. But for my $400 ea tickets they want to take a $70 or so cancellation fee. I find this a bit of a slap in the face.
Is the cancellation fee $35 per ticket? That is what I typically see from BR, and it is a steal compared to any US carrier. For $35, you can cancel anytime up to departure. UA typically charges $15 or so for a 3-day "fare lock"...

As for seat fees, try booking LX or LH and you'll pay the same fees... that is reality in 2019.
