Just be aware that all campgrounds are not open in Iceland in May as the winds are still strong from the winter. And you do have to park in a campground overnight as Wild Camping is strictly prohibited. Would be worth your while to contact some campgrounds in advance to make sure they will be open for you. Do not trust online guides as their data does not get updated.
