LH in SFO thinks you are travelling to India and needs to see documentation that you have a visa. When they transmit your passport data to the Indian authorities it will be evident you don't have a visa. The Indian system is based on the passport number. That is where the troubles will begin. LH can refuse you boarding. Get the eTA.
