I used to buy insurance then I decided to self insure but once I had the CSR it seemed as if it would cover a trip where the stay is paid for in cash when I paid for the flight with the card. I asked them this specific question and was told that it would. Since I have not had occasion to claim I can't confirm this from experience. I hope not to, and that you don't either!
