Exactly my issue. As a very long time consecutive gold, I used AA or DL to get to places like Myrtle Beach, SC or Burlington VT or Destin FL. Now I don’t get any AS credit for that so it’s harder to requalify. I sure wish AS would join one of the big networks like OneWorld, or even Star Aliance. I wonder what the chances of that ever happening are.
OW Connect? Maybe. Looks tenable. AA would not have to lift a finger to help or change the existing relationship. QF/BA/CX/JL/AY could cozy up and AA could maintain their current “not TOO friendly” distance.
Full membership? Not unless UA/DL/AA is buying the airline and executing a merger.

There is exactly zero reason for UA/DL to do AS a solid. AA already had a deeper relationship and said “naaaaah, we’re good”. Why make it easier for someone to defect to Mileage Plan in a market like LAX or JFK?
