I did exactly that back in January. I think I looked at the CMB-DXB history on FlightRadar24 and it seemed pretty reliable. The flight transfer at DXB was very fast and I was through before the BA transfer desk opened!

Another nice bonus was an upgrade at the gate from WT+ to upper deck J on the 747 (overbooked econ/prem econ)!
