A few corrections:
1. You do not need to call BA to book a layover in London. It can easily be done on-line.
2. The phone booking fee is not waived simply because "you can't do it online." The waiver only occurs if you CAN usually do it online, but that functionality is temporarily broken.
3. All flights from the US to LHR to Paris involve two separate flights and a change of planes.
