I just did this with a rolling three SDC to be on a flight 24 hours later. I had already paid the change fee once so did not want to fo this again, but worth it for the extra time with my son.
Just be careful that there is availability on the second flight @:-)
It's early in the year so the loads are probably light, but I"m not sure I'd try this in summer season when it seems like all the flights are full.
