My elderly relatives (and even the younger ones) are of sterner stuff than to whine about "full-blown PTSD that will have prolonged effects on their lives" over a few uncertain hours at sea that turned out well for most.

Everybody lived. A couple were seriously hurt. This entire drama should be no more PTSD-inducing than an airplane skidding off a runway.
