I have about 6 hours in between flights at MIA and the flights are on different itineraries/airlines/alliances/terminals so I need to go landside anyways. You could take the 37 bus South to the Fresco on the corner of Douglas Rd (NW 37th Avenue) and NW 7th Street. Just take the train to the rental car center but follow signs to Miami Metrorail, Miami Metro Bus and TriRail. It's about a 5-10 minutes bus ride.
