Of the alternatives on the SPG side if you ignore the location I’d be tempted to recommend the Le Meridien (I really dislike the neighbourhood). The Suites are gorgeous and I really liked the breakfast.
I agree. SGS is my Bangkok home; and, IMO, no other property comes close. That said, I also like LM. The breakfast selection isn't nearly as large as that of SGS. If you're looking for a non-club happy hour, LM Happy Hour drinks are at the Bamboo Chic Bar on the fourth floor. It's a regular bar with bartender and wait-person service.
