I had been flying AA and just completed a PLAT challenge and am new to various perks on DL.
I set up an itn on
www.delta.com in MAIN CABIN and after completing the booking I was able to then choose a seat (for FREE
) in C+. It would be much less circuitous to let me choose the C+ seat at the start--why the two step process?
Because DL wants to manage C+ "upgrades" similar to how they do F upgrades, and so they're based on inventory, and while it's true that if you book far enough in advance, then practically speaking you will likely get the instantaneous post-booking C+ seat, for those booking closer in it's not guaranteed (just ask ethernal
)
Which is a circuitous way of saying, there's no great reason they couldn't do it the way you suggest in cases where the inventory will be immediately available, but it would mean extra programming which is probably the actual reason
