Excellent hotel, staff and value!

My wife and I finished a four-day stay at the Hilton Ngapali in Myanmar a few days ago. To make a long story short, we loved it! I'm not sure what criteria Hilton uses for linking hotels to sub-brands, but this property could easily qualify as a Waldorf or Conrad in my opinion. Some of the many highlights:

1. Management and staff: Hotel Manger Eugene Win was great in communicating with me in preparation for the trip, and greeted us upon arrival. The staff was equally high caliber: uniformly friendly and efficient.
2. Hilton Diamond treatment: Upgraded from a regular room, booked as an award stay, to an ocean view king villa with a private pool. (More on that below). I don't think other Diamonds and Golds can absolutely count on such upgrades, as it could of course hinge on availability. But it's worth requesting beforehand. Other Diamond (and I believe Gold) perks included the complimentary, very nice breakfast buffet, including egg and waffle stations, and, at the upstairs, indoor/outdoor shore bar a free happy hour (actually two hours 5-7 pm) that included wine, beer, well prepared mixed drinks (prepared by a very nice bartender who went by the Anglicized name of Smith) and appetizers. It seems that everything except premium liquors is included in that
3. Our suite: The ocean view king villa is wonderful, actually even nicer than depicted in photos, with a very large bathroom/two-shower(both outdoor and covered, next to each other)/bathtub area; a very substantial bedroom/seating area looking out toward the sea: and a pleasant outdoor entry area between those two other sections, with seating for removing or putting on your shoes. Plus, last but not least, a great, pretty private outdoor area facing the sea, with a small pool, two lounge chairs, a mattress-like cushion to also relax on, and a hammock. That outdoor area is situated such that a staff member or another king villa guest could conceivably stroll by, but would be unlikely to do so. It is so nice and private that when we were at the hotel we mainly hung out there rather than at the fantastic main pool. Both the villa's entry and beachside pool areas have pleasing fountains that can help drown out external noises (not that we heard any) and that can be turned off if you simply prefer the sound of the sea.
4. Other rooms: there are only three categories of rooms, including our ocean view villa. I took at look at the other two, which both face the nice lagoon, which has fountains running much of the day. The basic rooms are large and very nice. The lagoon villas are even more so, and include extremely spacious balconies.
5. The grounds: Lovely. Beautiful artificial lagoon area with wonderfully landscaping and foliage.
6. Nearby restaurants: There's a basic but good one called Maung May restaurant practically on the street just outside the entrance to the hotel and several more up and down the road from there, including Ocean Peal (which we also liked) just a 5-10 minute walk away, on the street outside the Amazing Ngapali Resort. There are basic beachside restaurants about a half-hour up the beach to the left; they seemed pretty deserted during the week but could well fill up on weekends, when lots of Myanmar folks they cater to visit Ngapali. We didn't get a chance to try them, though.
7. The pool: Really lovely infinity pool to spend time at! We didn't do much hanging out there because of our villa, but it's one of the nicest resort pools I've seen.
8. The beach: As others have noted, the beach right outside the hotel isn't great. But the hotel pool mitigates this substantially. I really like walking on beaches, and was able to do so for about a half-hour by turning left (south) from the hotel pool. I mostly took my walks early morning when it happened to be low tide, but it seemed like the walk could probably be done even during high tides. About ten and fifteen minutes up the beach (in front of a couple of resorts, the latter being the reportedly very good Amazing Ngapali Resort) there are pretty, rock-free beaches.
9. Value: Whether in points or money, this really seems to be the best value in the Hilton chain. The same kinds of rooms, quality of service and amenities would easily cost two, three or four times as much in other Hiltons. Based on what I saw of the hotels on the main Ngapali beach, I'd say the Hilton is the nicest Ngapali property and and even if you're paying with money rather than points its ocean villas may actually be less expensive than the best rooms at some of the top hotels on the main beach.
10. Visiting here versus the main Ngapali beach: We liked The main Ngapali beach (where we stayed at the Pristine Mermaid Resort for four days before moving to the Hilton) is nicer overall, though as I noted the Hilton does certainly seem to be the nicest hotel in all of Ngapali in terms of overall quality and resulting value. (We looked at several other hotels on the main beach.) Plus the difference in favor of the main beach is mitigated somewhat by the good local restaurants nearby the Hilton if you're interested and the fact that you can take long walks on the Hilton beach and the ones running into it. And you can pretty easily venture out to the main beach for a visit from the Hilton (maybe 15-20 minutes by car), if you're so inclined, via its shuttles or local taxis that we saw outside the hotel. We'd very heartily recommend the Hilton for all of the reasons already stated here. Or, as we did, you might split your time by first checking out a place on the main beach and then moving to the Hilton.
11. Room recommendations: The Ngapali road does run outside the hotel, though any noise is mitigated by the rooms facing away from it, the aforementioned lagoon fountains and the road being rather quiet at night, and in the ocean villa we couldn't hear it at all anyway. Still, for regular and lagoon villa suites, I'd recommend asking for farther from the road. I don't think location makes much difference for ocean villas; still, for slightly quieter options or slightly better views, I'd suggest asking for a choice not closest to the pool or to the end of the resort on either side; we liked our location in 116, which was one from the end.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to post here or pm me.
