just transited ATH twice today (outbound and return transits, Schengen-Schengen Aegean Air flights.)
When we got bussed in, they dropped us off right into the sterile zone B gates. Not even a BP check required.
The second time round, we got a jetway arrival, and directed towards arrivals/baggage.
However, along the way, there are "transit points" with directions pointing up an escalator to departures, and there was a BP check.
I guess you missed the transit points and went all the way out to the baggage carrousels.
