How about fly to KL and take a train up to Penang?
Yeah i know, I think i'll layover in KUL as my gf has friends there too, i've been there twice so i'm not worried too much on staying there longer than an overnight layover.

I tried to fly through Hanoi but its still a long way around to Langkawi, I don't think I will go to Penang now.
