The Delta platinum card also waives the spending requirement for Silver, Gold and Platinum Medallion levels after $25K in purchases. Since one can earn 15K/40K/65K Medallion Qualification Miles (after reducing the usual flying requirement by the 10K you get from the card) for a whole lot less than $3/6/9,000, that can be valuable. (The credit card spend requirement for a Diamond Medallion MQD waiver went up to $250K a year or two ago, though. Not as attractive to most people, but if that's the kind of large purchase you're talking about ...)
