I think it is fair for those of us who have flown TAAG and flown into LAD to comment so that others know what to expect before they purchase a non-refundable ticket. This is not BA or LH or UA or some airline that is reputable or a first world airport. It is a safety issue that is quite relevant to the decision to purchase a "Deal".
The reviews for TAAG speak for themselves as do the safety issues and FAA certification or lack thereof. Personally I would not want to pass through LAD unless you have no other choice (or maybe your other choice is LOS). For one thing it is swarming with mosquitoes so you are rolling the dice on Malaria. Be sure to get a yellow fever shot and bring your insect repellent. Now as noted above the request for bribes are less frequent now but that does not mean that you will not be asked. Feel free to politely decline, tell them US law does not permit it (FCPA). I'd be careful what I eat and drink. Lounge access is absolutely essential IMO thought don't expect much in the way of edible food.
Fares from Africa can be expensive so this fare might make sense depending on your circumstances. But if you have other options and no specific need to get from South Africa to Portugal I would pass...
