world tails--hated that much?

so as noted on a different thread--watched the channel 5 BA 100 special last night and one thing that i caught was how much "project utopia" aka world tails were so despised.

i was in my teens at the time but recall how much i loved these new BA tails...but had no idea they were so reviled!

was it a thing too early for its time?
