I'm having the absolute hardest time trying to get what I would consider a very simple award itinerary booked. I downloaded my call records to quantify just how hard, and I've spent 426 minutes - over seven hours - on hold or on the phone with MP/AM agents trying to book this itinerary over the last six days.
I've never booked with AM before, but transferred in from Citi to book LAX-DOH-MLE for my husband as I only had enough AA miles to book that itinerary through AA for one of us. At the time I initiated the transfer, the full itinerary was available in J. By the time the points landed in my account two days later, DOH-MLE no longer existed in J. No worries, I'm ok with confirming economy and trying to change to J if J becomes available. However, no matter what any agent tried to do, they couldn't ticket LAX-DOH in J and DOH-MLE in Y on the same award itinerary. They'd confirm that the individual segments exist, but couldn't do anything to book a single award. Even escalation to a supervisor of some sort gave me no better result. I tried over multiple calls with multiple agents.
In the time since then, LAX-DOH J inventory has disappeared (assuming booked by another redemption). Available for my same dates is LAX-DFW-DOH-MLE (LAX-DFW on AA, rest on QR), with LAX-DFW and DOH-MLE both in Y, DFW-DOH in J. The agent said they can't book more than two segments, so I asked her to just book DFW-DOH-MLE. She found the individual segments in the classes of service specified, but again couldn't book them as one ticket.
I'm at wits' end at this point. I have found all of the following threads describing similar issues, though none have the seemingly difficult (for AM agents) additional layer of needing a mixed cabin itinerary, and none seem to have been resolved.
Online Asiamiles availability discrepancy -- single vs dual segments
Married Segment on redemption ticket.
Why is QR-QR via DOH for AM redemption so difficult?
Does anyone have any ideas or recent experiences on what I can do to force this?
I'll also note that I'm concurrently booking whatever itinerary I'm trying for with AM through AA for myself (the AM ticket is for my husband). I put LAX-DOH-MLE on hold with AA after confirming there were 2+ tickets available in J on LAX-DOH and Y in DOH-MLE using BA and QF searches, and then tried to book this mixed cabin itinerary with AM for the second seat (for which AM agents could see inventory for the individual segments). I've had no issues with AA whatsoever - I've added a segment, dropped a segment, changed a segment, all in different classes while trying to get the AM issues sorted. At the 11th hour of my five day AA hold on LAX-DOH-MLE, I finally canceled that hold since LAX-DOH had disappeared with AM around day 3 of that hold and I want to try my best to get us on the same flight, but now I have LAX-DFW-DOH-MLE on hold with AA as described above with no issues.
Help!!
