That's what I wound up doing. The UR portal wouldn't let me pick a C+ fare because I wound up booking an AF flight on the return (we liked the schedule better) but delta.com let me just buy it when I logged in to view the reservation.

Now I just need to keep checking in and see if seats together show up in the "2" of the 2-3-2.
