Yeah, a night out in Tokyo can do plenty of damage to the credit card, even avoiding any dubious places. International karaoke in Akasaka is only semi dubious, and can set you back a fair bit.
I never had it nearly as bad as some people, but nevertheless the few times I have been ripped off were not fun. I strongly believe that it is far safer to just drink at the hotel, or at similar establishments. And it’s a lot more fun. Maduro is a wonderful bar, and I am a fan of the Oak Door Bar as well. Andaz Rooftop bar is also great. Just be careful of certain working girls and other types that frequent the Oak Door Bar later at night, as you can imagine.
