DL 2258: LAX-MSP
Equipment: Airbus A321
Meal: Lunch — I think
Distance: 1535 miles, block time: 3h37

I got a new job this year which means that instead of extremely regular trips to Boston, the new HQ for my employer is in LA — and that means trips to LAX. The flight from MSP to LAX had a pretty lengthy upgrade list, and I didn't get beyond Comfort+. But on the return, I got the upgrade at the PM window — and got the meal selection email 72 hours in advance, as expected. Unfortunately, the catering on the flight seemed to just be messed up and there was no record of my pre-selection. Also, they only boarded 19 meals, so before we left someone had to volunteer not to eat. Fortunately three people offered up and we were on our way. And I still got my meal choice — the famous Delta cheeseburger. The other option was a tandoori chicken salad. Good service from the flight attendants. Full PDBs, even though the inbound was late and we were late off the gate. The F cabin seemed to be in a celebratory mood, with at least a half dozen of us ordering prosecco. After takeoff, the F flight attendant went to the back and commandeered the Y cabin supply as well — and we did a good job of finishing it all.

Entree: Cheeseburger

Verdict:
So, in my previous job, I was almost always flying to the east coast. And from MSP, all of those flights are under 1500 miles, so lunch was decidedly underwhelming. This flight had a meal that was more like the dinners I'm used to, but based on the meal windows I think it was still lunch — just much better because of the distance of the flight. Because of jet streams and such, the block time was pretty much the same as I was used to on the 400 mile shorter BOS-MSP flight. As for the food, it was pretty solid. I would have liked another ketchup packet, but I like ketchup. Also, maybe a fruit would have been nice, in addition to the potato salad. But all-in-all, the food and the serve were perfectly good and I enjoyed my flight home.
