Annual fee hit on two AAdvantage Platinum Select cards. Called, spoke to first agent, said I got my statement and saw the annual fee, and that with the benefits reduction I wasn't sure it was worth keeping. Agent told me the benefits had just been increased, not decreased, and cited the category bonus for restaurants. I said the 10% rebate on award redemptions was ending, and that was a loss of 10k miles per year, which I couldn't make up in extra restaurant spending. She said the rebate is still there and where did I hear it was ending. I told her I'd gotten email from AA two days ago. She passed me on to retentions ("My colleague will assist with this, do you mind holding?"). The retentions agent also said the rebate was still in effect, and when I told him about the email from AA, he said "Well, if it's from AA it must be legit, it's just that I hadn't heard about it" and apologized for not being aware (not his fault at all). He said he'd generate a complaint about it and offered my either a $88 statement credit after spending $99 within 30 days, or 7,500 bonus miles after spending $1,000 within three months. Took the miles, as it's a 1.3 cents per mile cost, which is good.
