Indeed the AZ cancellation was not reasonable because you are neither the other passenger nor do your details apparently match other than in the sense that there is a partial name match and travel to Italy. If this does not work out, you would have a decent EC 261/2004 claim for denied boarding.

However, I would not focus on the Regulation until after the trip is over. It is the least productive thing right now.
Thank you. I called again and he said it was resolved and emailed the tickets out to me. Hopefully that's the end, but I'm not touching online check in after what happened before.
