I just got off HU YYC-PEK in J. This trip was different than the normal HU trips I had but can’t put my finger on why, it just didn’t feel right. I’ve taken them about a dozen times across the Pacific and always had wonderful trips.

First off I don’t like the new FA uniforms. They also got new pajamas which are more or less the same as the old ones but have HU logo on them. This A330 did not have air vents. (which sucks) I thought all the A330’s had them. This flight is always empty in J so getting a seat without someone next to you is easy. They had the 2x2x2 generic 787-8 original J seats which I’m a fan of with HU’s bedding.

I don’t know if it’s because they’re going through financial problems, but the food was definitely not as good as it normally is. The cabin staff was very friendly, and I actually saw for the first time a non-Chinese national as a flight attendant. I didn’t speak to her but she looked Russian.

The entertainment selection was downright abysmal. They had no new Hollywood movies, and bad old US films. I don’t know much about the chinese films, but it was a boring flight none the less without anything to watch.

If flying in J I would highly recommend sitting in the first J cabin since it’s quieter. The behind J cabin that borders economy isn’t really separated that well, so it can be noisy. Avoid row 15 as it’s right by the bathrooms and you constantly have passengers going by there and opening and closing the privacy divider. I always aim for a bulkhead with nobody next to me.

I don’t think many people know about the limo service so I would just remind everybody that if you do purchase a business class ticket (no matter the price) you’re entitled to free airport transportation. There was a gentleman with my name on a placard waiting for me when we got to the terminal. He was very nice and took my bags and escorted me to my car. I love this service HU has out of PEK. They meet you and help you through customs. On the way back they will meet your car at the airport upon arrival and help check you in when you arrive at the airport.
