Other than reducing the number of points earnt, I don't see how that would be possible given that Gold members receive zero guaranteed, tangible benefits. And even the value of Platinum status varies greatly by hotel. And when staying at an Accor property outside the Asia-Pacific region and without a lounge, Plat benefits are often non-existent.
