OK, let me add some info about the air tickets part of your trip: AA tends to have decent availability to/from HI, especially if you're not travelling during high season (X'mas, Spring break, and summer holidays). There is a promotions starting on 9/7 and until 11/18 that offers R/T in coach for 30,000 mile/ticket.
