People make race and religion-based assumptions all the time. If I have to arrange a lunch spot with an Indian colleague I will almost certainly assume that (s)he does not eat beef. In your first experience sure there may have been some racial 'profiling,' but if there was no ill intent does it really matter?
In a similar vein, I am of Chinese descent but I don't speak a lick of Mandarin or any other Chinese dialect. Am I to be offended when someone greets me in Mandarin assuming I can speak the language?
