Am wondering if I should drop the idea of going to Cairns and instead make a day trip to Canberra and a sort of day trip to Melbourne (which would be hectic)
whats with the compulsion to 'do two cities'???
IMO a rich and fulfilling visit to Australia can be crafted around Sydney.
Sydney
Coast/Beaches
Day trip along cost north or south
Day or overnight out to Blue Mountains....(book a corner view room at Echos and wake up to wild parrot on your deck -instead of $300 on flights...just saying)
There are a TON of suggestions in a few threads here around "sydney day trip"...link 3 or 4 together.
I think you can craft an experience in 5 days that gives you a broad sampling of Oz. There is simply no way that I would spend two half days at airports, driving two from airports and flying with a 5 day trip!
